CYRUS HARDING WALKER
1922 - 1945
On 28 July 1945, VF-87 began strikes in the Kure area beginning with a sweep against Matsuyama West airfield. After the sucessful sweep around Kure, Ensign Walker was reported as missing in action as a result of his plane being hit by AA gunfire over Matsuyama West.
A few nights before the strike, Ens. Walker had received a cake for making the 1000th landing of air group 87. On the afternoon attack of 28 july, VF-87 pilots found that shore battery at Matsuyama West and throughly destroyed it.
Ensign Walker was awarded the follwing medals for his service:
