Lt. Littlefield was awarded the Navy Cross for his part in sinking battleship Hyuga.
Two days later,
he was awarded the Distingushed Flying Cross for his part in sinking cruiser Tone.

UNITED STATES NAVAL RESERVE
for extraordinary heroism in operations against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a carrier-based Navy Torpedo Plane in Torpedo Squadron EIGHTY-SEVEN (VT-87), embarked from the U.S.S. TICONDEROGA (CV-14), in action on 24 July 1945, while deployed over the Inland Sea of Japan. His outstanding courage and determined skill were at all times inspiring and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service
